Who I Get To Be When I'm On My Yoga Mat

When I roll out my yoga mat for my personal practice, I immediately feel a sense of calm and relief. The time I spend here is entirely mine, legitimately self-centered, yet never selfish. On my mat, I naturally turn inward, checking in, taking inventory of my physical and emotional state. If I come to the mat “checked out”, or not in touch with how I feel at that moment, I would squander this precious “me” time.

On my mat I am 100% in charge. I am empowered with choice. If it’s appropriate, I will test my physical and mental fortitude which allows me to go beyond the boundaries of a previous practice. If needed, I invite a gentle practice that will nourish whatever parts of me are asking to receive some extra TLC (tender loving care).

Our body speaks to us in sensations – we only need to tune in and listen – and it will let us know exactly what we need. The practice of yoga asks us to always honor our body, for our mind to be in synergy with our physical vessel. The harmony, nourishment and self-care that result when we respect that partnership are truly healing and life sustaining. I look forward to experiencing that together.
